"shell shattered" - probably not an M1A1

Amidst the fields where silence used to reign,

Now echoes ring of steel and cries of woe,

The earth, once fertile, stained with crimson rain,

Where soldiers march, and heavy shadows grow.

The thunder of the cannons splits the air,

As fire and ash consume the morning sky,

While valor and despair make their dark lair,

In hearts that once believed they could not die.

The banners wave, though torn by endless strife,

And voices shout commands in bitter gust,

Yet each brave soul who once knew peace in life,

Now meets the ground, their dreams returned to dust.

In every clash, in every shattered shield,

The price of war is carved in blood and bone,

For in the end, no victor owns the field—

Just ghosts, and ruins overgrown with stone.

Beneath the din, a mother’s whispered prayer,

A lover’s hope lost in the smoke’s cruel veil,

For every battle fought, a life laid bare,

And histories are written with a wail.

Yet still the drums of war refuse to cease,

Their rhythm cold, relentless as the tide,

And though the world may hunger after peace,

It’s in war’s shadow that the fates collide.
